OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T gets Project Treble support on the latest OxygenOS Beta

OnePlus is from one of the vendors that offers public beta program. OnePlus has released Open Beta 13 and Open Beta 11 for OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T respectively which offers the support for Project Treble.

What is Project Treble?

Well, FYI the idea behind Treble is to modularize the Android operating system so it’s easier for manufacturers to push updates to the software. The reason manufacturers have such a hard time pushing out prompt updates is because of all the work that has to go into getting the operating system to communicate with the hardware.

Google had separated the vendor implementation, including the device-specific, lower-level software written largely by chip makers, from the core Android OS framework. This makes it easier for OEMs to push Android updates shortly after Google releases new software versions from its end.
So, starting with Android 8.x (Oreo), Google separated the two. That means the Android OS itself can be updated without having to touch the vendor implementation. That, in turn, can be updated by itself if needed.

OnePlus brings update to the launcher as well as the UI. Here's the changelog:
