Amazon's Alexa can now set as a default assistant on Android phones which can be accessed by holding down the home button for a short moment, the same way Google Assistant can be accessed.

Alexa has still many limitations as it cannot be accessed in every way like Google Assistant can be, that is by squeezing the phone or by a hotword (like Ok Google or Hey Google). Alexa can't search on map and can't make calls. Alexa quickly searches the question (if not found in the database) on Google.

In order to set Alexa as your default assistant, you have to download the Amazon Alexa app via the Google Play Store. You can then type Then, go to Settings > Apps > Default Apps > Assist & voice input. As a shortcut, you can also go into your Settings and type “assist” into the search bar.

Google Assistant is still at the top in the race of voice assistants. While users on Reddit confirmed seeing the new option to add Alexa as the default assistant on their Google Pixel 2, One Plus 5, One Plus One, Xperia, Moto G5 Plus, Essential Phone 1, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus, and Samsung Galaxy S9 devices.
